Life happens and life goes on. It is when we struggle with life that we sometimes feel overwhelmed, out of control, and we question many things. In these situations, we might experience depression, anxiety and stress. Life’s history can be carried on for many years creating, in some, a continuation of trauma, adjustment, and unhealthy coping. As we move through life, our environment (including individuals, events, places, and things) can move in directions that we do not prefer. As we realize we do not have control of our environment, we can find ourselves losing control of ourselves. These feelings can lead to depression, anxiety, and stress, as well as substance use, psychosis, suicidal ideations, and unhealthy coping skills, to name a few. The only thing we as individuals can really control is ourselves, and it is possible to be in control of ourselves even when our environment appears out of control.

Dr. Ervin has 37 years of experience in the mental health profession in various roles in acute psychiatric hospitals including a state psychiatric facility and state security program for competency restoration, residential treatment centers, partial and day hospitals, and outpatient settings. Dr. Ervin brings his years of experience to the outpatient setting to provide services to those who need counseling or therapy. Providing education and direction in a therapeutic environment is a priority, in order to help those who are struggling with various issues, that will provide positive results as the individual moves toward normalcy.
